The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti is seeking an individual for the position of Physician in
the Health Unit.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION: Incumbent Provides primary health care and emergency medical services to
American US Mission employees, eligible family members and others authorized to utilize the Health Unit. Provides
occupational health services to locally employed staff.

NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive
information supporting each item.
1. Medical degree and completion of an approved internship and residency and/or Current US Specialty Board
Certification is a plus. License to practice medicine acceptable to the Government of Haiti.
2. At least six years experience as a physician. Experience with patients across the lifespan. Additional experience
in flight medicine; travel medicine; previous experience with the US Government, experience with disaster
medicine to include nuclear, biologic and chemical threats.
3. Level IV in English, French and Creole is required to include medical terminology.
4. Thorough Knowledge of medical practice across the lifespan, as well as thorough knowledge of US standards of
care. Knowledge and understanding of advanced life support and trauma care. Familiarity with occupational safety
and health regulations. Regular attendance at continuing education training and seminars is required.
5. Ability to diagnose and treat a full range of illnesses and injuries. Interpersonal skills suitable to advise patients
and families who may be under considerable stress. Respect for medical confidentiality. Sensitivity in eliciting
information from those who may have difficulty articulating their condition.
